The Product
Mission Backup provides convenient, confidential, and secure remote data storage to users with Internet connectivity. The service provided by Mission Backup includes the use of user interface (henceforth referred to as Client) software. The backup technology utilized by the Client allows for backups of quantities of files using the Internet infrastructure as a transport medium. The customer's Internet connectivity may range from 28.8 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem to a high-speed x-DSL or cable connection. File restoration from Mission Backup may occur online using the same Internet connection as used for the backup or by fast response shipment of traditional storage media (CD, tape, hard drives, etc). Mission Backup Client Software The Mission Backup Client is a Microsoft Windows-based application that provides graphical user interface to define backup and restore sets. The user navigates the file system using a selection tool similar to the standard Windows Explorer. Once the file set has been selected, it may be saved, scheduled, or recalled at a later time. The Client interface to Mission Backup's Main System is menu driven and allows for the following functions:· Add, Modify, and Delete backup profiles· Backup & Restore· Copy individual backups to local storage media· Initiate a backup from a Local Storage Device· View all log files generated from previous backups· Create and/or Modify automated backup schedules A scheduler is provided as part of the Mission Backup Client. The scheduler allows the user or system administrator to define which backup sets will be run and the time and frequency at which to execute them. On Windows NT systems, the scheduler runs as a system service. On Windows 95, and Windows 98, the scheduler is loaded as a resident program. The Mission Backup Client performs the remote backup by connecting to the Mission Backup server. The machine running the Client must have a TCP/IP connection to the Internet. Any Internet connection with connection speeds of 28.8Kbps and greater is supported. Connections behind firewalls and those that use proxies are possible with some local configuration. Each time a backup is executed, a log file is created. The log file provides an audit trail for the backup and can be configured by the user. Information, which may be included in the log file, includes: file name, file size, date and time of operation, operation type (send or receive), and the number of bytes actually transferred. |
